Corporate Social Responsibility

The Robin Hood Foundation started informally in March 2005, when Cindy Norcott, the owner of Studentemps and Pro Appointments decided that she could clothe ten babies with her daughters' outgrown baby clothes. She started distributing bags of second hand baby clothes and toiletries to needy mums at St Mary's Hospital. Seeing the mums crying with joy and hearing horror stories of new mums leaving the hospital with their newborn babies wrapped in newspaper motivated Cindy to intensify her efforts and the Love the Babies project started.

In 2007, The Robin Hood Foundation, a non-profit organization (060-697-NPO) was formed due to the ongoing growth in the various community projects being under taken.

Love the Babies

Since Love the babies started, more than 8500 Love the babies bags have been distributed to needy mums in disadvantaged communities in Kwa Zulu Natal. Each Love the Babies bag contains the following -

  • A blanket
  • Toweling nappies
  • Disposable nappies
  • Vaseline
  • Age appropriate outfits
  • Bibs
  • Booties
  • A pair of shoes
  • A hat
  • A jersey
  • A toy

Love the babies bags go a long way towards easing the plight of disadvantaged new mums who have very little for their new babies.

Gogo Bags

Since 2006, Cindy, the trustees of the Robin Hood Foundation and the team of volunteers then decided to start making up "gogo bags" for needy grannies who are burdened with the responsibility of looking after their orphaned grandchildren. Since 2006, more than 12000 gogo bags have been distributed to needy grannies and orphan headed household, mainly situated in Inchanga, Lower Molweni, Chesterville, Shongweni, Hammarsdale and Kwa Mashu. A typical gogo bag contains the following items -

  • 2.5 kg maize meal
  • 2.5 kg sugar
  • 100 tea bags
  • 1 tin of pilchards
  • 1 tin of baked beans
  • 1 large bar of Sunlight soap
  • 1 family soap
  • 1 kg packet of rice
  • 1 box of soya
  • 1 box of biscuits
  • 1 packet of sweets
  • 1 tube of toothpaste

"This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one, being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up before I die. For the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It's a sort of splendid torch which I've got to hold up for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations." - George Bernard Shaw
