Procurement Officer / Buyer – Pinetown
 
Our client is looking for a motivated, confident Procurement Officer / Buyer to join their team, ensuring efficient and timely procurement of essential materials for their production processes.
 
Key Responsibilities:
    • Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favourable terms and ensuring consistent supply chain performance.
    • Raw Material Procurement for BOMs: Purchase bulk raw materials based on demand planning, ensuring materials align with Bill of Materials (BOM) requirements to meet production schedules. Manage local and global sourcing for ingredients like baking ingredients, packaging, and essential supplies
    • BOM Management & Inventory Replenishment: Utilize BOM systems effectively to forecast and replenish raw materials in alignment with production needs. Maintain optimal stock levels to avoid delays in production.
    • Timely Delivery Coordination: Manage procurement schedules, aligning raw material delivery with production timelines to prevent stockouts and production delays.
    • Demand-Based Ordering: Collaborate closely with the demand planning team to align purchases with forecasted needs, ensuring cost-effective inventory levels without compromising production flow.
    • Cost Control & Budget Management: Monitor purchasing costs and work within budget parameters, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or safety.
    • Quality Control: Ensure materials meet quality and safety standards through proper vetting and compliance checks and handle any supplier-related issues proactively.
    • Task Tracking & Follow-Up: Monitor and track all purchasing activities closely, providing regular updates to relevant departments and addressing potential delays promptly.
    • Invoice Management & Payments: Ensure accuracy in invoicing and manage prompt payment to suppliers to maintain trust and continuity.
    • Time Management & Communication: Prioritize tasks effectively and communicate efficiently across departments to support smooth production flow and meet tight deadlines.
 
Qualifications:
    • Beneficial: Supply chain or procurement certification.
    • Food Manufacturing/production environment experience
    • Strong understanding of BOM system
    • Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Excel
    • Knowledge of SA import/export regulations
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with a proven track record in procurement.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to maintain rapport and negotiate with diverse suppliers.
    • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to managing multiple purchasing tasks.  
    • Proficient in tracking systems and software for purchasing activities.
