The Technical Manager shall attend to the functions as set out below, includes, but not limited to:
- Coordination and planning of all vehicle combination statutory and business compliance, (Planning board).
- Preparing monthly workshop management reports, in which the following are recorded:
- breakdowns and the costs, (JHB cost included in Stats)
- all purchases made
- all servicing done in Durban and Johannesburg, (includes trucks and trailers/tankers);
- statistics compiled for all of the above.
- Attending and maintaining the administration of the Workshop Department – ensuring files are up to date, filing all documents. (Service records, license discs, COF, brake tests, fire permits, job cards, certificates)
- Ensuring and monitoring that all warranty claims for parts or work done
- Overseeing mechanics, ensuring job cards are done and work is carried out timeously and professionally
- Overseeing the tyre bay, ensuring that tyres are checked, and job cards are filled in
- Participating in Audits and ensuring recommendations are closed off
- Attending to all management reports for the department
- Co-ordinate resources and liaise with internal and external key contacts to ensure work is delivered on time and to a quality standard
- Be responsible for job allocation and job flow in the workshop including job scheduling and labour allocation for day-to-day operations
- Co-ordinate resources, (operational and human) schedules and activities to effectively manage jobs
- Assist with quoting, project management, materials purchasing and quality checks
- Regularly report progress on each job and quickly communicate delays or concerns with the Managers
- Act as a technical adviser on key projects and other areas of the business as requested
- Identify staff that require on-going training and implement training opportunities to ensure their skills are improved
- Provide feedback to staff that are not performing to the expected level and ensure human resources are informed of trends in performance
- Promote a Health and Safety culture within the business
- Ensure that all reports and information related to fleet management are produced on a timely basis, analyse information and ensure quality and accuracy of report prior to distribution.
- Ensure that all repairs and maintenance performed to vehicles and other equipment are done in accordance with the established standards to achieve maximum reliability with minimum downtime
- Ensure that workshop supervisors are utilising full capabilities for workshop management.
- Ensure that all workshops are equipped with adapted tools and equipment and that
- the workshop infrastructure meets minimum health, safety and security standards, together with considerations for environmental needs.
- Implement best practices and ensure that Key Performance Indicators are maintained with set parameters
- Continuously collect and collate valuable data and information related to improvements required for standardization and development purposes of Fleet Management
- ensure vehicles are used in accordance with established rules and regulations and that vehicle usage data is correctly recorded
- Propose improvements in the existing transport processes, systems and tools
- Maintain daily duty rosters
- Must be up to date on all aspects of the laws and regulations governing the fleet transportation industry
- undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of your job requirements
General Administration
- Ensure that your account and monitor, document and capture the shifts worked for each employee within your team, including monitoring the basic and overtime worked
- Implement and monitor the turn-around time for each job tasked, and ensure the quality of the work executed
- Report and take action in the event of turn-around times not being implemented, and quality standards not being met
- All management checks must be implemented and undertaken to ensure that it complements the work undertaken by Workshop
- All checks conducted must be in accordance with the prevailing industry standards
